We love our cars. We love long Beach. Taking good care of both is easy...
By recycling your used motor oil and filters every time they’re changed, you help keep our local environment clean and healthy, and provide a source of oil that helps conserve our natural resources. Recycling is the safest way to dispose of used motor oil and filters. It is illegal to dump it into a storm drain or put it in your trash.
There are two ways Long Beach residents can recycle used motor oil and filters:
Request a pick-up of your oil/filters, and place NEXT to your purple recycling cart
Drop used oil/filters off at a local, certified used oil collection center
How to Request a Pick-up
As part of the Residential Recycling Program, your recycling is picked up each week from your purple recycling cart. You can request that your used motor oil and filters be picked up on your next recycling collection day.
Call (800) RECYCL2, or use the online form at right, to request free containers and filter bags or to schedule a used motor oil/filter pickup.
Motor oil and filters will be collected only after you have requested a pickup. Your request must be received before 4:00 p.m. the workday before your recycling collection day. Requests made after that time will be scheduled for your collection day a week later.
On your scheduled used oil collection day, place motor oil and filters two feet away from your recycling cart (not inside the cart).
Used motor oil and filters MUST be in the special containers for collection.
Do not leave used motor oil or filters out unless you have requested a pickup.
